– le marchand général Tertulien Lemay –
Tertulien Lemay naît à Lotbinière (Bas-Canada) le 7 juillet 1838. Il s’établit à Ottawa en 1860. Il réside d’abord rue Water (auj. rue Bruyère), puis ensuite rue Sussex. Marchand prospère, il tient un commerce de nouveautés au détail, rue Sussex, de 1872 à 1898 sous la raison sociale T. Lemay et cie, puis à partir de 1898 sous le nom de Lemay Limitée. Tertulien Lemay s’occupe pendant plusieurs années du commerce du bois à Ottawa et dans la vallée de l’Outaouais. Il est échevin du quartier Ottawa, et préside la Commission des licences des alcools d’Ottawa. L’un des fondateurs et directeurs du Monument national d’Ottawa, il est aussi secrétaire-trésorier honoraire de l’Orphelinat Saint-Joseph d’Ottawa et membre actif de l’Institut canadien-français d’Ottawa, de la Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste et de la Catholic Mutual Benevolent Association. Marié à Célina Dubé (v. 1858-1912), il est père de six filles et de quatre garçons. Il meurt à Ottawa le 15 février 1922 à l’âge de 84 ans.
