Obituary of Alphonse G. Maheu
Alphonse Gilbert Maheu died peacefully at the Montfort Hospital with family by his side, on October 15, 2020 at the age of 92. He was born September 22, 1928 in Port McNicoll, Ontario.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jeannette Maheu (née Lalonde) and will be sadly missed by his 8 children: Pierre (Christine), Charles (Jo-Anne), Robert (Christine), Martin (Brigitte), Elaine (Shane), Jean-Marc (Deborah), David and Joseph (Sarah), as well as by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Alphonse was predeceased by his father, Joseph Elzear Maheu and his mother, Lumina Mary (Minnie) Maheu (née Baker) and 12 brothers and sisters from the Georgian Bay area: Henry, Anne, Rita, Charles, Jules, Rose, Len, Bea, Bert, Gus, Fred (his twin) and Bud.
“Al” had a longstanding career as Regional Supervisor for the Natural Gas Company based in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario where he and his wife Jeannette raised their children.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as 4th degree Knight in Sturgeon Falls, Penetang and Ottawa.
Following the passing of his spouse Jeannette in 1995, Alphonse moved to Ottawa to be near his children and grandchildren.
Visitations will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, at Racine, Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home,180 Montreal Rd., on Monday October 26, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A commemorative Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 10:30 am at Notre-Dame de Lourdes Church, 435 Montreal Road, Ottawa.
A second visitation will be held in Penetanguishene, ON, at the Penetang Funeral Home, 155 Main St., on Thursday, October 29th, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A second commemorative Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 10:00 am at Saint Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Penetanguishene, Ontario, 28 Robert St. W.
A funeral service will follow at Saint Ann's Cemetery. For those wishing, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice. A special thank-you to the staff at the Gary J. Armstrong Home for their care and support provided to Alphonse these past few years.

Alphonse Gilbert Maheu est décédé paisiblement, à l’Hôpital Montfort avec sa famille à ses côtés, le 15 octobre 2020, à l’âge de 92 ans. Il est né le 22 septembre 1928 à Port McNicoll, Ontario.
Il était l’époux bien-aimé de (feu) Jeannette Maheu (née Lalonde) et laisse dans le deuil ses 8 enfants : Pierre (Christine), Charles (Jo-Anne), Robert (Christine), Martin (Brigitte), Elaine (Shane), Jean-Marc (Deborah), David et Joseph (Sarah) ainsi que 16 petits-enfants et 12 arrière-petits-enfants. Il fut prédécédé par son père, Joseph Elzear Maheu, sa mère, Lumina Mary (Minnie) Maheu (née Baker), ainsi que ses 12 frères et sœurs de la région de la Baie Georgienne : Henry, Anne, Rita, Charles, Jules, Rose, Len, Bea, Bert, Gus, Fred (son jumeau) et Bud.
« Al » a eu une longue carrière en tant que superviseur régional pour la compagnie de gaz naturel basée à Sturgeon Falls, ON, où lui et son épouse Jeannette ont élevé leurs enfants.
Alphonse était actif comme membre du 4e degré des Chevaliers de Colomb, à Sturgeon Falls, Penetang et Ottawa.
À la suite du décès de son épouse Jeannette en 1995, Alphonse a déménagé à Ottawa pour être près de ses enfants et de ses petits-enfants.
Une première série de visites aura lieu à Ottawa, à la Maison funéraire Racine, Robert & Gauthier, au 180, chemin Montréal, le 26 octobre 2020 de 14 h à 16 h ainsi que de 18 h à 21 h. Une messe commémorative sera célébrée le mardi 27 octobre 2020 à 10 h 30 à l’Église Notre-Dame de Lourdes, au 435 chemin Montréal, Ottawa. Une seconde série de visites aura lieu au Salon Funéraire de Penetanguishene en Ontario, au 155 rue Main, le jeudi 29 octobre 2020 de 14 h à 16 h ainsi que de 18 h à 21 h. Une seconde messe commémorative sera célébrée le 30 octobre 2020 à 10 h à l’Église romaine catholique Saint Anne à Penetanguishene, en Ontario, au 28 rue Robert O. Une cérémonie funéraire suivra au cimetière Saint Anne. Pour ceux qui le souhaitent, des dons commémoratifs peuvent être faits à l'organisme de bienfaisance de votre choix. Un remerciement spécial au personnel du foyer Gary J. Armstrong pour les soins et le soutien apportés à Alphonse ces dernières années.
